The AYS Practice Agreement
Creating a Space of Discipline, Safety, and Respect.
At Atma Yoga Shala, our studio is more than just a place to exercise—it is a space for dedicated practice (Sadhana). To ensure the safety of every practitioner and the sanctity of our collective energy, we ask all members to honor the following guidelines.
1. The AYS Practice Agreement
Your well-being is our primary concern. To help our teachers guide you effectively:
- Medical Disclosure: You must communicate any medical conditions, injuries, or physical ailments to AYS administration before attending your first class.
- Medical Clearance: In specific cases, we may require a "Fit to Practice" letter from your doctor. Please submit this documentation before your first session begins.
- The Golden Rule: While our teachers take the utmost care in guiding you, the ultimate responsibility for your safety lies with you. Always listen to your body, follow instructions carefully, and never exert unwarranted force. Do not attempt postures that the teacher has advised you to avoid.
2. Membership & Commitment Policies
To maintain the integrity of our programs and studio operations, we strictly adhere to the following:
- Validity: Membership terms (number of classes and validity period) are fixed at the time of purchase.
- Extensions: Extensions are not granted except in documented medical emergencies. AYS reserves the right to make the final decision on any extension requests.
- Non-Refundable: Memberships are non-refundable. We encourage you to make full use of your sessions and the benefits included in your plan.
- Non-Transferable: Your membership is personal to you. It cannot be transferred to friends, relatives, or other practitioners.
3. Studio Etiquette (In-Person)
Respect for the space and your fellow practitioners is at the heart of our tradition.
- Punctuality: Arrive on time. Entering late disrupts the opening meditation and the flow of the class.
- Personal Props: We advise students to bring their own yoga mats for hygiene and consistent practice.
- Digital Silence: Cell phones must be switched off or put on silent mode before entering the practice hall.
- Mindful Transitions: When unrolling your mat, please do so gently and silently.
- Studio Care: After class, please roll your personal mat and return any borrowed studio props (blocks, belts, mats) to their allotted spaces neatly.
- Stay for Savasana: Do not leave class halfway. The final relaxation is essential. If you must leave early for an unavoidable reason, please inform the teacher before class begins.
4. Virtual Etiquette (Online)
For those joining us live via Zoom, the same discipline applies to your home sanctuary:
- Audio Discipline: Please keep your microphone on mute unless you are clarifying a doubt or speaking with the teacher during designated times.
- Focus: Treat your online session with the same respect as an in-studio class. Minimize household distractions and stay for the duration of the practice.
