Often on the spiritual path , there is talk about detachment !
And common people confuse it with dispassion or lack of passion or
at times even hatred.
It is thought to be about a person not caring and be cut off from the
rest…
But, detachment on the contrary , as spoken about in the vedas , can
never be dispassion..
It is compassion and caring.
It is about having that feeling of oneness
It is about identifying that oneness , and not having any expectations .
It’s about developing that attitude to just give without conditions
Those that have changed the course of history through ages have
managed to do so, not because they were attached to the cause . But
because they were detached enough to understand that they were not
giving to another but it was just achieving something because they felt
oneness with the community that deserved it.
They didn’t even think of it as giving..
They were just bringing it home because they didn’t differentiate .
They saw the same light in others , that shone bright within their own
selves .
It is with that feeling of oneness that countries have been freed,
communities have been liberated and racial differences have been
overcome.
Well, not to deny the struggle is still on..
The fight is still on..
But the only way to achieve that communion , going forward, is by
cultivating that awareness , that feeling that We Are One !
Even Darwin’s theory of evolution , fundamentally points to the fact
that We Are One.
The Oxford dictionary defines ‘oneness’ as ‘the fact or state of being
unified or whole , though comprised of two or more parts’ , or , ‘the
state of being in harmony with someone or something’..
Are we not all just wanting that? Harmony & Peace?!
And is that not what Yoga is also all about? The Advaita Vedanta
school of thought emphasizes just that.. the whole idea of non duality.

Non existence of opposites .
Adi Shankara says, it’s just ignorance & ego that makes us feel
separate.
The only way to overcome this and achieve that state of harmony at
home, at workplace , in our community in the world at large, is by
striving on a day to day basis , to do more than just empathise, and
identify , that ultimately You & Me are ONE and the same !
Let’s overcome the Avidya ( incorrect knowledge) that each is
separate.
It is when we rise beyond and see that Oneness , that we can break
the walls, build bridges and build each other up for a better
tomorrow..
